On this day in 1907, the first electric automatic washer and dryer was introduced.

Let's take a moment out of the day to be grateful for Mr. Alva J. Fisher of the Hurley Machine Company of Chicago, Illinois, who introduced the "Thor" washing machine. I'm sure someone else would have done it at some point, but this guy opened up a lot of time in our day to do other things. Can you imagine life without it? I'd probably just keep buying underwear.

Humans have more than five senses

Aristotle is the guy who decided that there are five senses– hearing, sight, smell, touch and taste. But humans have a lot more than that; they are just more difficult to pronounce. Neurologists are working through a whole slew of "new" senses we've always had. Take chronoception - the sense that time is passing.

I'm going to save other senses for future Shenanigans because they are fun to think about in an "oh yeah, I can do that" sort of way. But if you are fascinated, go here for more from Barry C. Smith at Aeon.

Have a great day.

Say a little "thank you" as you cram your washer with too many clothes, and choose wisely on how to spend your time.
